Young Aboriginal women from across Gippsland came together for a relaxed and welcoming BBQ event at Castle Park in Morwell, organised by the Latrobe Valley Koorie Partnership Committee.
Held on 1 November 2025, the afternoon gathering was all about making connections and sharing a meal. Around 10 people attended, including two facilitators. The mood was friendly and relaxed, with everyone enjoying the chance to catch up, share food, and feel part of something special.
Feedback from the community was really positive. People loved the food, the atmosphere, and being able to connect with each other. Many said it was great to see everyone come together and hoped there would be more events like it in the future. Some even suggested a beach trip as the next event — a great way for families and young people to spend time together on Country over summer.
The event was hosted by Courtney Guce and supported by Isabella Johnston and Partnership Co-chair Linda Atkinson. The Partnership is committed to creating safe and welcoming spaces for Aboriginal community members to come together, share experiences, and build strong connections across the Latrobe Valley.
