PARTNERS
The purpose of the Latrobe Valley Koorie Partnership is to support strong Aboriginal families to continue to grow and thrive. We are looking for partners who are committed to working together for the goals of local Aboriginal community. We will work together with our partners to write a Formal Agreement which will include how the partners and community representatives will work together and make shared decisions…
The Partnership is part of Closing the Gap, focusing on Target 12: To reduce the overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in Out of Home Care by 45% by the year 2031. Each partner will have a role to play in working towards the target.
The Partnership will use a preventive approach to our target, which means understanding and changing what is currently happening that is leading to Aboriginal children being removed. The power of culture to heal and protect will be at the centre of everything we do. We will also work towards reducing family violence and improving economic opportunities for community.
The Latrobe Valley Koorie Partnership Committee invites government, sector and community representatives to consider becoming part of the partnership and/or a member of the Latrobe Valley Koorie governance structure. As a partner with a seat at the table it will open opportunities to:
- Practice and apply self-determination by sitting at the table with community, guided by community needs and goals
- Contribute to the success of Victoria’s only Closing the Gap place-based partnership
- Work innovatively alongside government who will be at the table and listening as a partner
- Contribute ideas and collaborating across sectors, to create systemic change
- Share information to ensure our decisions and actions are based on good evidence
If you or an organisation you represent feel you are ready to work in partnership and would like to know more, please complete the contact form below or send us an email at LatrobeValleyPartnership@vacca.org.
