Families in community had an amazing day at the beach thanks to an event organised by the Latrobe Valley Koorie Partnership Committee.
The surf day brought together 16 kids and 9 adults for a fun-filled day in the water. Everyone got the chance to learn how to surf, starting on the sand before heading out into the waves. With perfect summer weather — just a little windy — the beach was the ideal spot for families to get together and try something new.
Qualified surf instructors from Surfing Victoria ran the lessons, making sure everyone stayed safe and had the best possible experience. Kids and adults alike gave it a go, and there were plenty of laughs along the way. Everyone went home with a smile, stickers, and a bag to remember the day. Lunch packs were also provided so nobody went hungry.
The Partnership organises events like this to bring community members together, celebrate culture, and create positive experiences for Aboriginal families in the Latrobe Valley. Want to know more about Indigenous surfing programs? Visit surfingvic.com/indigenous.
