Two important youth organisations sat down together in September to share ideas, build connections, and strengthen their partnership. The Latrobe Valley Koorie Youth Council (LVKYC) met with the statewide Koorie Youth Council (KYC) on 4 September 2025 at the Morwell VACCA boardroom — a meeting that underlined the importance of regional voices being heard at a state level.
Peter Hood, Courtney Guce, Bonnie Dukakis, and Jye Charles attended the two-hour session. Both councils shared updates on their current projects, youth engagement activities, and priorities for the months ahead. The KYC expressed strong support for the local work being done by LVKYC and acknowledged that young people in regional areas like Gippsland need to be part of the bigger picture.
By the end of the meeting, both groups had made a set of clear commitments: to stay in regular contact, to share resources and opportunities freely, and to make sure LVKYC members are invited to state-wide youth events wherever possible.
For young Koorie people in the Latrobe Valley, this kind of connection matters. When local organisations are plugged into state networks, opportunities flow both ways — bringing Gippsland voices into state conversations, and bringing state resources back to local communities.
