A new chapter began for one of Gippsland’s most respected Aboriginal organisations on Friday 6 February, as Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation opened the doors to its new George Street office in Morwell with a joyful and moving ceremony.
Partnership Committee members were among the crowd — estimated at around 100 people — who gathered to witness the Wunman Njinde Welcome and Opening Ceremony. The celebration featured a traditional smoking ceremony and two dances performed by a local dance group, filling the air with culture, pride, and community spirit.
Among those attending were representatives from Ninde Dana Quarenook, other ACCOs, and Anita Harden, Manager for Community Partnerships with the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing. Anita expressed interest in working with the Latrobe Valley Koorie Partnership around a potential local NAIDOC Committee — an exciting opportunity for future collaboration. Laurie Marks from the Ramahyuck Committee was also present. After the ceremony, Partnership Committee members took time to chat with the welcoming front-of-house staff and explore the new facilities.
Ramahyuck District Aboriginal Corporation has been a pillar of Gippsland’s Aboriginal community for decades, providing health, housing, and support services. The opening of this new office marks another step forward in their ability to serve and strengthen the community they care for.
